Sprigging

What is Sprigging?

Sprigging is the planting of turf sections cut from rhizomes or stolons that includes crowns and roots.

Sandman offers sprigging services with the latest automated equipment for your sports field needs, as an affordable alternative to sodding. If you have 60 to 80 days for a field to develop, consider sprigging your field for the following:
  • New sports field complex.
  • Worn areas such as center of football fields.
  • Large conservation areas.
  • To modify existing turf with an improved hybrid species.
  • An alternative to seeding which may take years to develop.
We offer laser grading and/ or tilling to to prepare soil for the sprigging process.

Of course we offer soil sampling, starter fertilizers, fertilizers blends for the grow in process and if required, topdressing to give you that professional sports field look and feel.

What to consider:
  • Begin soil preparation early, Sprigging in May, June, July is best.
  • Consider watering heavily for the first 35 days.
  • Consider light fertilization often.
  • Be ready to mow turf in 50 to 65 days
